Duo charged with kidnap

IPOH: Two men were charged in a magistrate's court here with kidnapping glove factory manager Teh Wai Toong, whose body was found dumped in Sungai Siput last month.

Chew Wai Keong, 34, and Yan Wai Seng, 19, were jointly charged with wrongfully confining the 30-year-old victim the intention of seeking a RM200, 000 ransom.

The two part-time computer technicians from Kampar were said to have committed the offence at No. 2, Laluan Bercham Utara 17, Taman Utama, here at 10pm on April 20.

No plea was recorded.

During proceedings yesterday. Chew softly answered "understood" and Yan nodded when a court interpreter asked them in Cantonese if they understood the charge read out to them.

Chew and Yan, who were unrepresented, face life imprisonment or the death penalty if convicted under Section 3 of the Kinapping Act 1061.

DPP Budiman Lutfi Mohamed prosecuted.

Magistrate Radzilawatee Abdul Rahaman fixed June 13 for mention pending a chemist's report.
